I have been involved
in the facilitating of theatre workshops since 1984. These have almost always been extremely exciting and rewarding experiences.
Here are examples of some of the people I have been working with over the years.
Benchtours During
my 15 years with Benchtours Theatre I worked as workshop facilitator as
well as performer, creating related workshop programmes in schools,
colleges,
adult training centres, unemployed workers centres with people of all
ages and
abilities. This includes working with students from RSAMD, Telford College,
Queen Margaret
College (both Edinburgh),
Dundee Arts Centre and Aberdeen
Teacher Training
College. Theatre Urubaru - Finland & Sweden Sweden and Finland. Director, teacher and writer of "Noah Part 1 & 2", a street show performed in the darkly satirical "Bouffon" style of theatre. The first part was created in Sweden and the second in Finland. The company consisted of an international group of ex students from the Copenhagen' "Commedia School". The show toured successfully throughout Scandinavia. Imphal Arts Laboratory - India Manipur, NE India. Researching and photographing the martial art of "Thang Ta" for International Workshop Festival's "Way of the Warrior" season in London and Dusseldorf. Kaleidoscope Theatre - Denmark Workshop co-ordinator at this Copenhagen theatre workshop space. Facilitated workshops in the "Bouffon" style of theatre with a selected group of professional Danish actors. Strathclyde University Script Development. Working with students on the play writing course. Involved heightening awareness of performance possibilities such as playing styles and ideas of space.
Survivors Poetry Directed "Radio SPS" following a long period of intensive workshops. Survivors Poetry arose out of Arts Advocacy and consists of writers who are or have been receiving treatment for the purposes of "improving mental health".
Inverclyde Youth Theatre Greenock. Co Director/teacher and writer of "The Good Ship India". This musical street performance was created
over a five-week period of workshops and rehearsals. This was the first stage
of a larger project marking the "Tall Ships" in Greenock
in 1999 . Role Play Work
| Kwacha National Troupe- Malawi Teacher, performer, writer. The "Preacherman" project was produced by the British Council in East Africa as part of Scotland/Africa Year. Over a period of six weeks Scots actors and dancers, musicians from the Kwacha National Cultural troupe created this large scale theatre spectacle based on the life of Dr David Livingstone. It toured overland to villages throughout Malawi, Tanzania and Zambia . Assisted in the creating of modules (Street Theatre, Devising Theatre, Clown) for the BA Contemporary Theatre Practices Course. Outside assessor for movement department responsible for grading 2nd year acting course students. Director/tutor for MA course solo show at Edinburgh Festival. Guest workshop teacher in Clown and Bouffon. International Schools Theatre Association Teaching world wide a variety of purpose built workshops such as "Bouffon", "Melodrama", "Script Development" and "Devising a Show" to schoolchildren and teachers in International Schools throughout Europe and India The Arches Theatre Glasgow. Movement Director on "Caligari". Involved in the creation of highly stylised movement with large chorus of performers of varying levels of experience. Kaleidoscope Theatre - Denmark Workshop co-ordinator at this Copenhagen theatre workshop space. Facilitated workshops in the "Bouffon" style of theatre with a selected group of professional Danish actors. Drumchapel Unemployed Workers Centre Taught job seeking skills (interview techniques, confidence building etc) to school leavers and long term unemployed. Which? Theatre Co North
England. Writer and
director. The project also called "Which?"
was an experimental project involving three professional actresses. Supported
by the English Arts Council, it was performed as a "work-in
-progress" at a number of theatres in the North of England.
